Digital Library
Digital Library – A Long Leap in the horizon of knowledge Farook College Library,
the first of its kind among the colleges affiliated to the University of Calicut,
is in the process of digitisation of its resources. The digital library is getting
realized with a grant of Rs. 10 Lakhs sanctioned from the M.P. Fund of Sri. P.V.
Abdul Wahab. The digital library will facilitate easy access to the electronic books
and journals downloaded from the open access archives and other sources made available
through internet and other on-line services like UGC, INFLIBNET, Info net etc. The
institutional repository being developed in the digital library will have in its
collection all the college magazines brought out since 1948 and souvenirs compiled
on the occasions of Silver Jubilee, 40th Anniversary and Golden Jubilee Celebrations.
This collection is hoped to be very attractive for the aged alumni of the college
who will be looking curiously to go through their creative writings they had done
in their adolescent days. The digital collection will also have in its stock the
theses and research papers of the teachers and articles written by the staff of
the college. Another remarkable collection in the digital library is CDs of National
Geographic Magazine since 1888 and the complete plays of William Shakespeare. The
CD collection of the Shakespeare literature was donated by Dr. Ahamed Kutty, an
alumnus now settled in USA.
The digital collection in the library is being developed on a powerful server with
a storage capacity of Nine Terabyte. A free digital library software known as Greenstone,
developed by UNESCO, is used for the collection development. The digital library
will be open to the teachers and students of the college on the occasion of the
inauguration of the Diamond Jubilee Celebration.
